But when he meets a man in a bar who needs to find his family sword, Amok gladly takes his offer to fetch it for some coin.

He’s soon to discover that there’s more to the weapon than he was told. He joins forces with his best friend and sorceress Goyiir and even some new companions along the way. They’ll need to travel far and defeat deadly monsters in order to retrieve the sword. The closer Amok gets to Atlantia, where the Harbinger of Doom dwells, the more he uncovers traces of his own mysterious past.

If you like Conan the Barbarian, Draven is the contemporary author you’ll want to be reading. Amok the Powerful is just the sword and sorcery fantasy I was hoping for: a tapestry of exciting action and jaw-dropping twists but with creative, lovable characters.

Amok will bring out your inner adventure-seeker too. He’s always out doing something, whether fighting in a bar or wrestling a dragon. Amok is an awesome escapist fantasy figure. He’s brave, strong, and can defeat almost anything—a recipe for an adventure fantasy reader’s delight. And not only that, Draven leaves clues of Amok’s past sprinkled throughout the story—he’s a powerful, multidimensional character.

Goyirr is more than Amok’s magical friend too. She’s pretty much his soul sister. They are both supremely confident and are strong in their abilities. It’s refreshing to see another strong fantasy female heroine in these pages.

Draven has created a vast, colorful world, and I loved every minute of it. Every village Amok and his crew visits is unique in its own way and come with their own set of problems. One town: missing children; another, giant spiders. There’s always something going on. It’s the little things that make this imagined world more appealing.

And it’s dark too! Events can get intense and scary, as they should in sword and sorcery books. Creepy cultists, human sacrifices, necromancy, evil spirits! This novel dishes out the chills with darkness.

Amok the Powerful is a fantastic journey. It’s dark. It’s classic yet new and comes with high-end adventure and powerful characters.
