Settle into your Sunday and catch up!<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Say Goodbye to This Kindle Feature<\/h2>\n<p>The next time someone laughs at me for holding onto my <em>Columbo: The Complete Series<\/em> DVD set, I\u2019ll loan them my copy of <a title=\"Buy from Thriftbooks\" href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/click\/camref:1101lkCeo\/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thriftbooks.com%2Fw%2Fjust-one-more-thing-stories-from-my-life_peter-falk%2F276825%2F\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"butter\" rel=\"noopener\">Just One More Thing<\/a> and point them to this article about Amazon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/news\/612898\/amazon-removing-kindle-book-download-transfer-usb\">retiring a feature that allows Kindle users to download purchased books<\/a> to their computers. While the feature is mainly useful for users who can\u2019t transfer straight to their device via WiFi, it\u2019s also another way to hold onto your purchased copy in case Amazon slides in and removes or modifies the title, which has happened. Not to get too <a title=\"Buy from Thriftbooks\" href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/click\/camref:1101lkCeo\/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thriftbooks.com%2Fw%2Fnineteen-eighty-four_george-orwell%2F247716%2F\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"butter\" rel=\"noopener\">Nineteen Eighty-Four<\/a>, copies of which Amazon removed in 2009, but the point <em>The Verge<\/em>\u2018s Andrew Liszewski made here isn\u2019t random: \u201cIt\u2019s a reminder that you don\u2019t actually own much of the digital content you consume, and without the ability to back up copies of ebooks, you could lose them entirely if they\u2019re banned and removed.\u201d The download option will be gone starting February 26th, but you can find instructions for how to access the feature between now and then in the article.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">It\u2019s Been 20 Years Since Twilight Published?!<\/h2>\n<p>The impact of Stephenie Meyer\u2019s angsty teen vampire romance continues to ripple across YA and publishing even two decades later, so why not give the enduring series a glow up? <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/twilight-20th-anniversary-editions-cover-reveal-exclusive-11679450\">Little, Brown Books will release three new special editions<\/a> of <a title=\"Buy from Thriftbooks\" href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/click\/camref:1101lkCeo\/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thriftbooks.com%2Fw%2Ftwilight-by-stephenie-meyer%2F248654%2F\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"butter\" rel=\"noopener\">Twilight<\/a> set to hit shelves on September 30th so fans of the series can celebrate the birth of Bella, Edward, and company with sprayed edges and a foil-stamped slip case to compete with any of the romantasy novels being freshly spat out by the printing presses today\u2013and that\u2019s just the Deluxe Collector\u2019s Edition. Also hitting shelves are the 20th Anniversary Edition paperback (don\u2019t worry paperback peeps, you also get sprayed edges) and the Deluxe Hardcover Collection with all four books in the series, plus the <a title=\"Buy from Thriftbooks\" href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/click\/camref:1101lkCeo\/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thriftbooks.com%2Fw%2Fmidnight-sun_stephenie-meyer%2F26565484%2F\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"butter\" rel=\"noopener\">Edward POV retelling of the first book<\/a>. The big deluxe hardcover set comes in a wraparound box and the books have, you guessed it, stained edges. I have to wonder how many BookToks we\u2019ll be seeing about these editions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Iowa Rushes, Advances Librarian Criminalization Bill<\/h2>\n<p>Iowa has quickly advanced a bill in a show of partisanship that \u201cwould erase protections that public libraries and educational institutions have related to \u2018obscene\u2019 materials.\u201d Learn more about this bill, including why it was rushed and the harmful impact it would have, <a href=\"https:\/\/bookriot.com\/iowa-rushes-advances-librarian-criminalization-bill\/\">in this Literary Activism piece.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019t Mess With Dolly<\/h2>\n<p>Funding for the Imagination Library, Dolly Parton\u2019s program to encourage early literacy by sending children under five years old a free book each month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/dolly-parton-calls-out-indiana-gov-over-plan-to-dump-her-imagination-library\/\">is not in Indiana\u2019s proposed budget<\/a>. The State of Indiana had previously supported the program, which Parton started in 1995 inspired by her father\u2019s inability to read and write, through a funding match. Over the past two years, the Imagination Library has reached more than 125,000 children in Indiana alone. Urging Indiana Governor Mike Braun to reconsider, Parton said this:<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p>\u201dThe beauty of the Imagination Library is that it unites us all\u2014regardless of politics\u2014because every child deserves the chance to dream big and succeed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With <a href=\"https:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/surveys\/piaac\/2023\/national_results.asp\">U.S. literacy on the decline<\/a>, we could use all the help we can get.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The <em>L.A. Times<\/em> Book Prize Finalists<\/h2>\n<p>I was so confused when I saw Andrew Garfield\u2019s name among the top mentions of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/books\/story\/2025-02-19\/la-times-book-prizes-finalists-2024\">L.A. Times Book Prize Finalists<\/a> until I realized it was for the Audiobook Production category (for the full cast production of <a title=\"Buy from Thriftbooks\" href=\"https:\/\/prf.hn\/click\/camref:1101lkCeo\/destination:https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thriftbooks.com%2Fw%2Fnineteen-eighty-four_george-orwell%2F247716%2F\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"butter\" rel=\"noopener\">1984<\/a> in case you\u2019re curious). At a glance, I am really jazzed by this list\u2013there\u2019s a good mix of the usual suspects and writers and works I haven\u2019t seen pop up on every other list. I\u2019m going to have to comb through the finalists again to remind myself of what I wanted to read but didn\u2019t get a chance to last year\u2013let\u2019s hope my TBR survives.
