When the invitation to attend the press opening of a luxury Swiss hotel\u2014owned by reclusive billionaire Marcus Leidmann, arrives, it\u2019s like the answer to a prayer. Three years after the birth of her youngest child, Lo Blacklock is ready to reestablish her journalism career, but post-pandemic travel journalism is a very different landscape from the one she left ten years ago. The chateau on the shores of Lake Geneva is everything Lo\u2019s ever dreamed of, and she hopes she can snag an interview with Marcus. Unfortunately, he proves to be even more difficult to pin down than his reputation suggests. When Lo gets a late-night call asking her to come to Marcus\u2019s hotel room, she agrees despite her own misgivings. She\u2019s greeted, however, by a woman claiming to be Marcus\u2019s mistress, and in life-or-death jeopardy.<\/p>\n

This is the follow up to The Woman in Cabin 10<\/em>, only 10 years later. It has been a long time since I read the first novel so I was a little worried I would not catch on as well, but it didn\u2019t slow the read down at all. All said and done, despite\u00a0a slow-boiling start\u00a0and a flair for the dramatic,\u00a0I loved this one *almost* as much as I hoped\u00a0I would before diving in. You see, with\u00a0plenty of cat-and-mouse antics\u00a0and a whole host of\u00a0possible mind games, I never knew when the next shoe was going to drop and shock me but good. That being said,\u00a0it didn\u2019t quite live up to the first book\u00a0in the series. So while it\u00a0oozed with rising dread\u00a0and had me\u00a0side-eyeing almost every character\u00a0in turn, it certainly\u00a0wasn\u2019t my favorite book by this author. Still\u2026If you\u2019re looking for\u00a0a one-sitting read\u00a0filled with\u00a0adrenaline-fueled hijinks, certainly give it a try.\u00a0I loved it, and I hope you will as well.<\/p>\n

I rated this novel four stars. While\u00a0it might be possible to read this book without reminding yourself of what happened the last time around, I personally wouldn\u2019t recommend it\u00a0as you\u2019ll have to fight to recall what happened when. So, if it\u2019s been years since you met Lo and the rest of the crew, you might want to, at the very least, find a comprehensive summary complete with some spoilers. After all, while this story diverged quite a bit from the first book in the series, it also\u00a0leaned somewhat heavily on bygone events\u00a0so you might be a little bit lost between the\u00a0returning characters\u00a0and the barely-there recollections of past of scenes.<\/p>\n
