Her life is fast-paced and rootless—until her latest assignment brings her dangerously close to the past she’s avoided. While searching for the perfect filming location near Charleston, Sonny stumbles upon a private barrier island and its mysterious owner, Hudson Renfrow—known to locals as the Monster of Indigo Isle.

Hudson, once a high-powered New York attorney, has exiled himself after tragedy struck, living quietly among his indigo fields. When a hurricane strands Sonny on his island, two broken souls are forced into each other’s orbit. What follows is a tender, Southern tale of forgiveness, resilience, and second chances.

I liked this one more than I expected to. I read it for book club and ended up giving it 4.5 stars. Sonny and Hudson are beautifully written, well-developed characters who feel real and flawed in the best way. The story gives off strong Beauty and the Beast vibes—Hudson as the gruff recluse hiding behind pain, and Sonny as the curious, determined light that pulls him out of isolation.

There’s a touch of grit here, wrapped in Southern charm. Lowe blends humor, heart, and atmosphere seamlessly. The scenes where Sonny keeps returning to Hudson’s island—even after being escorted off by the sheriff—were some of my favorites. Hudson, a book-loving loner with no TV, completely stole my heart.

Sonny’s journey, from running away from her family drama to finding the courage to face it, added depth to the romance. And while the ending was a bit predictable, it was also deeply satisfying.

The setting deserves its own mention—Indigo Isle feels like a living, breathing character. The vivid descriptions of the Carolina coast and the indigo fields make it easy to sink into the story.

Overall, Indigo Isle is a touching story about healing, forgiveness, and the unexpected beauty that can bloom after the storm.

The post Indigo Isle by T.I.
