Liv Reese wakes up in the back of a taxi with no idea where she is or how she got there. She reaches for her phone to call for help, only to discover it\u2019s missing, and in its place is a bloodstained knife. That\u2019s when she sees that her hands are covered in black pen, scribbled messages like graffiti on her skin: STAY AWAKE. Two years ago, Liv was living with her best friend, dating a new man, and thriving as a successful writer for a trendy magazine. Now, she\u2019s lost and disoriented in a New York City that looks nothing like what she remembers. Catching a glimpse of the local news, she\u2019s horrified to see reports of a crime scene where the victim\u2019s blood has been used to scrawl a message across a window, the same message that\u2019s inked on her hands. What did she do last night? And why does she remember nothing from the past two years? Liv finds herself on the run for a crime she doesn\u2019t remember committing as she tries to piece together the fragments of her life. But there\u2019s someone who does know exactly what she did, and they\u2019ll do anything to make her forget\u2015permanently.<\/p>\n

Let me say right off the bat, there is no doubt the premise of this book is crazy good. So when the setup is that amazing and it seems to build into something potentially mind-blowing, the question becomes, does it actually deliver? And the answer is yes and no. On the plus side, I found this to be a quick and easy read. I felt compelled to see where it was going, which definitely kept me turning the pages. The most enjoyable parts were the police investigation, with detective Halliday being the real highlight of the whole thing. But the majority of this story follows Liv, and that\u2019s where it fell short for me. Liv is your standard heroine of psychological thrillers, pill-popping (in this case, caffeine), paranoid, and just plain dumb in all of her thoughts and actions. Every time she meets someone who could actually help her, she runs away. My eyes definitely got a workout from all that rolling.<\/p>\n

I had to rate this book 3.5 stars. This is a very addictive thriller that I can see myself giving 4 stars if I like the ending. I think I was a bit disappointed with the grand finale. I was hoping for more since I was hyper-alert throughout this journey.<\/p>\n
