The Other Side of Midnight<\/em> was a quick and enjoyable read. Simone St. James is one of those authors who consistently delivers when I\u2019m in the mood for a creepy ghost story, and this time she added a historical twist that really worked for me.<\/p>\n

Set in 1925 London, this book combines murder mystery, paranormal elements, and romance into a story that kept me turning the pages. One thing I especially liked was the way the psychic elements were handled. Instead of the typical \u201cghost appears to a random person\u201d storyline, Ellie serves as a true conduit between the living and the dead. The way Ellie, the ghosts, and the psychic abilities all intertwined felt fresh and different from other paranormal books I\u2019ve read.<\/p>\n

The London setting added a lot to the atmosphere. There was an underlying sense of uncertainty and danger that fit the story perfectly. While the aftermath of the Great War plays a role in the book, I found myself wishing it had been woven into the story a bit more deeply, as it was in some of St. James\u2019s other novels.<\/p>\n

I also really enjoyed the romance. James was exactly the kind of flawed, complicated hero I tend to love\u2014damaged by his past but still charming, confident, and surprisingly sweet. The fact that he and Ellie had a bit of history added extra chemistry to their relationship, and I loved watching their partnership develop throughout the investigation.<\/p>\n

My only complaint is that I wanted a little more romantic tension before they finally got together. The chemistry was definitely there, but I would have loved a bit more build-up before the payoff.<\/p>\n

Overall, this was another solid paranormal mystery from Simone St. James. If you enjoy historical settings, ghostly mysteries, psychic abilities, and a touch of romance, this one is definitely worth picking up.<\/p>\n
