It\u2019s not just in these moments of strife\u2014the ones where Nancy might lean a bit too much on her brother\u2014that his unquestioning love for his sister shines through. It\u2019s in the prose, in the quiet moments, in the growing up and learning alongside each other. It\u2019s a lifetime of love and support\u2014from both sides, in every sense of the word support\u2014that is the backbone of this literary memoir.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But of course, the strife shows us just how deep the love goes too. Financial support is one thing; sharing a home is another; realizing that your money is being used as a tithe for the church without your knowledge is yet one more. But Bill\u2019s love never wavers; if anyone knows his sister, it\u2019s him. If this is important to her, it is important to him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This is such a touching, loving story of the brother and sister bond. Anyone with a strong connection with their sibling will feel seen by the unwavering support between these two people who\u2019ve been with each other since childhood.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The prose is also a notable highlight of Six Weeks<\/em>. Ledbetter\u2019s writing reads like a product of lifetime reading and literary appreciation. The sentences are airy and voluminous, so often speaking of other, deeper things, while covering even the lightest topics, from work\u2014\u201cThe rhythm of work talk is its own shelter, replete with safe sentences and familiar, solvable problems. You can hide inside it.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u2014to the opening lines of a beautiful day, \u201cIt was the kind of day that makes you believe endings can wait their turn.\u201d <\/em><\/strong>There may be some repeated concepts and languid storytelling without much new content arriving in each new chapter, but readers who enjoy the quietude of a life shared slowly\u2014and how it dwindles with health\u2014will appreciate what Ledbetter has done here.<\/p>\n

Six Weeks<\/em> is a caregiving memoir told with great care\u2014a sibling novel stitched together with indestructible thread.<\/p>\n
