To be honest, I was on the fence about reading this one because of the mixed reviews. So needless to say, my curiosity about this book was definitely piqued. The best audience for this, I feel, are readers who don\u2019t read a lot of mystery. If you do, I think you\u2019d get frustrated by the lack of originality. It\u2019s enjoyable in that it\u2019s not *bad* but it\u2019s just not fresh, fun, or exceptionally clever enough to stand out. As far as murder mystery goes, one can\u2019t take this too seriously; the setup grows increasingly silly and implausible as more information is revealed, and the ending leaves several loose ends dangling. Judged on its own merit, it\u2019s a very readable murder mystery with some sharp commentary on the publishing industry, but there\u2019s nothing especially groundbreaking or stylistically memorable about it.<\/p>\n

I have to give this one three stars. While I was entertained for a bit by the \u2018who done it\u2019 style of the plot, it ultimately went on far too long and didn\u2019t quite deliver the gripping experience I was hoping for. I\u2019m still unsure whether the dual authorship helps or hinders this novel; the pacing and structure often feel uneven and over-complicated, as though each writer contributed separate fragments without anyone being the decisive lead. That sense of equal footing leaves the book bogged down by long chapters with unnecessary backstory and side plots, where the narrative moves at a glacial pace.<\/p>\n
