Worsley is especially adept at providing a different perspective on the queens, correcting popular misperceptions, and humanizing them\u2014for example, in the strikingly sympathetic double-portrait of George II\u2019s queen and his mistress. The author seeks out formerly overlooked evidence of female agency and accepts the possibility\u2014without certainty\u2014of homosexual inclinations. Her lively account pushes against cinematic dramatizations, chasing through the archives as well as stalking the halls.
