“Weak people revenge, strong people forgive, and intelligent people ignore.”

After years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. Finally back together one last time, when the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours. The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. Then at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. And an hour later, the next family member follows… Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets, before the tide comes in and all is revealed.

This book in a nutshell was boring and really annoying over the top characters that were not at all in my option, believable. This book was almost a smash of three other books all into one that I have read recently. I kind of had an idea how it ended and it would have been a cool twist but it wasn’t fleshed out enough in my mind. I got tired and a bit bored. Then when it got going I think the twist got lost in the rush. It’s one of those that if it stuck to one of the books I read it would be ok but it threw everything in but the kitchen sink.

I rated this book three stars. The plot didn’t grab my attention until the 50% mark, but it was too little too late. I can’t give a high rating to a book I didn’t have fun reading. The explanations for the murders were so far-fetched, I really had to suspend my disbelief. I didn’t guess the ending here, but I think it was simply because by that point I didn’t really care. And it’s not like it was a twist that hasn’t been done a gazillion times before.
