Poston always brings a gentle dose of magical realism to her stories, and that thread is part of what makes her books so unique. I really liked how this one explored the idea of two seemingly random (but not so random) people being pulled together by something they don’t fully understand—something bigger than them, and meaningful in the end. Joni wasn’t my favorite at first, but she grew on me, and I loved watching her walls come down. Sasha was trouble and charm all rolled into one, exactly how you want your brooding musicians to be.
I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narration, but I also made sure to grab a picture of the soundtrack list from the print edition—those songs now live happily on my Spotify playlist. It added another layer of connection to the story and made the reading experience that much more immersive.
