And even if it means swallowing her pride to train with a man she once almost opened her heart to: Bowe Huntley. Like her, he has something to prove before he gives up the game forever.
The book’s last quarter was probably the best–had the most movement. The first part was full of tennis plays, games, and continued talk of a comeback–it dragged. Carrie is not a favorite protagonist. She defines egotistical–her internal dialogue is full of her greatness. I think TJR could have spent a lot less time teaching us every stroke, how to score and hold a racket, and more time on developing relationships. I would have liked to know more about Carrie’s life outside of tennis. In the end, Carrie Sotto is an entitled athlete who is frankly selfish.
In the end, this one ending up at a rating of 3.5 stars for me. It just did not catch my attention and when the main character is not likeable, I tend to not want to keep reading. I couldn’t really get engaged in the story until halfway through the book when the story picked up for me!
