Ali Hazelwood has done it again! Mate, the highly anticipated companion to Bride, delivers another addictive blend of paranormal romance, action, and sizzling chemistry—and I was hooked from page one.
The story follows Serena Paris, the world’s first Human-Were hybrid who’s caught between rival factions of Weres, Vampyres, and Humans. Her existence was supposed to unite the species, but instead it’s made her a target. With danger closing in, her only option is to seek help from Koen Alexander—the powerful, commanding Alpha of the Northwest pack who’s made it very clear he’ll do anything to protect what’s his.
I liked this one just as much as Bride. While the action and spice take a little while to build, the slow burn worked perfectly here. I loved getting to know Serena and Koen before things heated up (and trust me, they definitely do). Serena is a strong, complex heroine you can root for, and Koen… well, let’s just say his Alpha energy had me swooning. Learning about “knotting” definitely added a new layer to the werewolf romance experience—and let’s just say Team Jacob might be looking a lot more appealing these days.
The further I got into this book, the more intense and unputdownable it became. Hazelwood balances steamy moments with emotional depth and political intrigue, creating a story that’s both fierce and tender. If you’re into slow burns, possessive Alphas, and paranormal worlds with real heart, Mate delivers it all.
This was another fantastic paranormal read for the season, and I am fully here for this werewolf-romance vibe.
