If you read the blurb or even the author’s warnings you should already know that Pen Pal is not a conventional romance. Which is also why I did not fully want to provide a blurb for this novel since it was marketed very badly. I went into this novel with a completely difference point of view on what this book was about.
We first meet Kayla while she’s burying her husband. The past is blurry and her life is falling apart alongside the house she’s presently living in. Which brings us to Kayla meeting Aiden who comes out to mend her roof. Sparks fly from their initial meeting and immediately they’re fucking through their animosity. During this commences a string of strange occurrences. Mainly letters from an inmate Kayla has never met, followed by unexplainable things that keep happening. The kind to put anyone on edge. While Aiden has become an emotional balm and exactly what she needs physically; mentally she’s hanging on by a thread.
Secrets, missing pieces, paranormal activity; I told you this is not what you’re probably used to reading. Initially I suspected a love triangle but I was wrong. However have faith in this talented author who can actually pull off this kind of story while turning the heat up to 100. It’s tragic and not what I anticipated. Is it a romance? I say yes while others may say no. You’ll have to decide whether you want to take the plunge or not! For me, I have to rate this 3.5 stars.
