I think friends to lovers is such a great trope. If done correctly. This is one of the better cases. I really liked how the emotional cheating was such a massive segment of this book because I liked their banter and they had really good chemistry. If it weren’t for the over dramatic and theatrical conclusion, this could’ve been rated higher.
Four stars for this novel. To be honest with you, the premise and the concept is nothing new—nothing crazy—so it does come down to individual characters and character traits. I can’t really place my finger on why this worked so much better than some traditional romances with this traditional plot, but it did. Even though summer was just starting, I could feel myself being transported to a beach/lake house while reading this book. She is great at creating an immersive atmosphere and transporting readers into a specific time and place. It really felt like i was a bug on the wall when reading this book.
