Please Enjoy Your Stay was such an atmospheric read with just the right amount of supernatural/haunted vibes!
The premise immediately intrigued me. Mia returns to the Austrian castle where her cousin was murdered years ago after a true crime podcast starts questioning whether the man convicted of the crime is actually guilty. Since Mia’s memories and testimony helped put him behind bars, she starts questioning everything she thought she knew about that night. I loved the idea of her going back to the scene of the crime and trying to figure out if her memories were actually true—or if she helped convict the wrong person.
And then, of course, there’s the fact that her cousin’s murder wasn’t the first one connected to this castle! Her aunt was originally there researching a book about a murder that happened at the castle back in the 1960s when Mia’s cousin was killed. So right from the start, the murder mystery vibes were SET! A creepy old castle with a dark history and multiple murders? Yes, please!
This one did start a little slow for me, but once I hit about the halfway point, I was tearing through it! A mysterious castle in the Austrian Alps, murders from the past, a true crime podcast stirring everything back up, and characters who ALL seem to be keeping secrets…this was exactly the kind of book I was in the mood for, and it delivered!
The atmosphere was probably my favorite part. The castle had that creepy, possibly haunted feel without the supernatural elements taking over the story. Add in someone mysteriously disappearing, family secrets, lies, and Mia questioning what really happened all those years ago, and the drama just kept building.
Of course, I was trying to figure out who was behind everything the entire time, and one of my suspects was correct! But there were still enough secrets and twists to keep me guessing along the way. I especially loved how all those secrets and lies finally came together at the end.
If you like atmospheric mysteries, true crime elements, family secrets, unreliable memories, and a creepy castle with a murderous past, this is a fun one to pick up!
