Home for the Homicides was such a fun holiday crime novel that is definitely NOT meant to be taken too seriously!
Welcome to Christmas—a ridiculously festive town where it’s basically Christmas all year long and crime is practically nonexistent. That is, until a tourist is found murdered in the town nativity scene…stabbed with an icicle. Right away I knew exactly what kind of book I was getting into!
Special Agents Holly Frost and Mark Shepherd are sent in to solve the murder, and both have something to prove after screwing up on the job. To make things even more interesting, there’s only one promotion available, so while they’re supposed to be working together, they’re also competing against each other. Oh, and did I mention they hooked up at the office Christmas party last year? Naturally, that makes everything even more complicated!
I really enjoyed the will-they-or-won’t-they tension between Holly and Mark, and it was so much fun getting to know Mark’s crazy family. And the Christmas-themed names throughout the book were so ridiculously over-the-top and not even slightly subtle, but that was part of the fun!
This was a humorous, offbeat police procedural—and I use the term police procedural VERY loosely! You definitely have to go into this one ready to embrace the silliness. There’s murder, romance, comedy, action, a few twists, and plenty of holiday chaos.
I listened to this one on audio and highly enjoyed it! It was entertaining from beginning to end and just a really fun holiday mystery.
If you like your murder mysteries with plenty of humor, romance, Christmas cheer, and a whole lot of ridiculousness, add this one to your holiday reading list!
4 stars — very entertaining!
