Second-chance romances are usually hit or miss for me, but this one was an easy win. Wren and Ellis Byrd fell in love young, built a life together, and then fell apart—and the way DeWitt explores what’s left after that kind of history feels deeply earned. From the start, I was rooting for them. I felt like I was right there with them, watching them slowly grow back into each other as they revisited their past and confronted everything they never fully said.
The characters were so vivid that I couldn’t stop casting them in my head as if this were already a movie. Their chemistry, lingering longing, and emotional baggage all felt real, which made their journey that much more satisfying. The road trip element added a gorgeous sense of intimacy and momentum, and the balance of big feelings and steam kept me fully invested.
Even though I haven’t read the first book set in this world, Left of Forever stood strong on its own—and honestly? It made me want to go back and dive into those earlier characters’ lives and stories next. If you love second-chance romances with depth, heat, and characters you can’t help but cheer for, this one is absolutely worth the ride.
